1277940719 72 What have you heard of Trish McEvoy, NARS, or Laura Mercier foundation?

I used to use DiorSkin Flawless but it looked dirty, caked-on, and uneven on my face.

I want to know how these would look/work out.

Thanks!

Also, any homemade masks I can make to EXFOLIATE my skin.

1277938926 33 What's the difference between synthetic and regular makeup brushes?

What's the difference? which one is better? if I were to get synthetic brushes from a craft store (like Michael's or Robert's) would that basically be the same as makeup brushes? (I'm on a majorly tight budget ha ha). thanks for the info! :)

Synthetic brushes won't absorb as much product as brushes made from animal hair, which is what most high-end brand brushes are made from.

Synthetic brushes can be just as good as regular makeup brushes, it just depends what brand you buy. I would recommend you check out coastalscents.com, or if you wanted to buy from a craft store try some Loew Cornell brushes, which you can find at Michaels.

Synthetic: Not real.
So a synthetic brush is not made from real animal hairs, while non-synthetic brushes are.

Neither is better. they can both be bad and both be good. I prefer synthetic, as animal hairs irritate my skin.

And no, paint brushes are not designed in the same way as cosmetic brushes, nor are they as soft for the more delicate skin (especially around the eyes). Paint brushes will likely irritate your skin.

There are many inexpensive brands of makeup brushes that are soft on the skin and work effectively. look online for reviews.

Regular brushes are made of actual animal hair, usually goat hair. These brushes are typically more expensive (but worth it–they will last for years), softer, and usually made by more high-end brands.

Synthetic brushes are made up of "fake" animal hair. These usually are cheaper, and sold at drugstores. they are usually not as soft.

No, craft brushes are very irritating to the skin, for they weren't meant for the face, they were meant for paper and crafts. So, you still can get cheap brushes from drugstores such as Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

Hope I helped & good Luck!

xoxo,
Erica

Some Helpful Tips About Makeup Brushes

1277935305 55 Some Helpful Tips About Makeup Brushes

Even though much of your makeup will come equipped with tiny applicator brushes, it is really better to have your own set of full size brushes. the tiny applicators are not great for putting your makeup on well, and they will often break or fall apart. a good set of makeup brushes doesn’t have to bankrupt you, although, it is a worthwhile investment. You have many different kinds you can choose from. Your brush for powder should be large. a powder brush should have gentle bristles, be round in shape, and are best utilized for the even application of powder to your face.

A powder brush differs from a blush brucsh slightly in size. it can also be used to apply bronzer if you are using that. a blush bursh is sized for the best application of blush to the areas of your face that need it. You should not use a powder brush for blush as you will not have control over where the color deposits. a good blush brush can provide definition to your features and will also cover appropriately. the bulk of your makeup brushes will likely be for applying makeup to and around your eyes. a basic brush for eyeshadow should be small and square. This can be used for applying color to your eyes and highlighting your brow area.

You may need multiple brushes for multiple colors. it is also wise to select an angled brush. This type of brush is good for getting color into your eye crease and around the corners of your eyes. if you want to apply eyeliner or a more exact line of eyeshadow you will need a brush with a very fine tip. Brushes that are made with all natural fibers are going to last longer and hold up better. You should consider investing in this type. it is also important to wash your brushes every 2 weeks or so. This will halp to remove any excess makeup or impurities that may have gotten onto the brushes.

You should store your brushes separate from your makeup. They should be kept dry and clean in a bag or container. if your makeup brushes have become worn or old, don’t be afraid to invest in some new ones. Makeup brushes can make the difference in your makeup application. and they don’t have to cost a lot!

1277933519 19 Will my makeup routine damage my skin? Is it too much? Too little?

Hello there! I'm a fifteen year old teenager who just started wearing a refining powder to cover my blemishes or red zits. I purchased it from Macy's, and the brand is called, "ORIGINS" and the color is Amaretto 20.

My make up routine is quite simple:

1) before bed, I apply cocoa butter to my face.
In the morning, I wash my face with clean and Clear Morning Burst.
2) I moisturize with a shine control face cream from clean and Clear.
3) I apply a little bit of the powder to a large foofy brush and brush over my skin and neck.
4) I add some blush to the apples of my cheeks and put some chapstick on my lips.
5) ** I don't wear mascara, because my eyelashes are incredibly long. if I do wear it, I lightly coat the upper and lower lashes. But this is extremely rare.

Is my make up routine too much? Will it damage my skin?

Pictures, if necessary:

I really don't think you should apply cover up if your putting all the other things onto your face. if they are for acne it should be helping so you shouldn't be putting on cover up. if you still have acne then maybe you lose some of the products. it just seems like too much on your face.

is not.
it sounds like you take good care of your skin.
just make sure that you don't do it too often, like a very day. let your skin breath every once and a while.

:)

nope, your make up routine sounds perfect. but make sure you take off your makeup before bed. let your skin breathe.

1277929903 50 How do u choose tones when u use BARE ESCENTUALS MINERAL MAKEUP?

My skin is awful, so I want to buy bare escentuals mineral makeup. However, i have no idea what tone to use. I have very very white skin and afraid that when i buy this make up, i will put darker color than my skin. Or i may do opposite and make my face even whiter. How do u know how to mix the colors and what to apply. thanx a lot:)

just try it out in person at any ulta, sephora, macy's, or nordsrom store, to get a good match to your skintone, before you buy. i am pretty pale also, i wear fair, fairly light, and light. if you get a starter kit (60.00), you'll get 2 shades of foundation. i use the lighter one to spot conceal, and the slightly darker one all over the face.

Well BE made me itch like crazy. they put Bismuth Oxychloride in theirs. And I hate buyin a kit, and the autoshipment thingy.
I ordered some samples from some other mineral makeup companies until I found one I liked and in the right shade.
You might wanna try that.
I ended up using LAminerals. I think it's better than BE, and just as good a coverage, and cheaper!

the tones are lighter than they look, so choose one about one shade darker than your skin tone. if they let you test it, put some on your jaw, cuz that's your natural skin color

go to sephora or ulta and they can teach you how to apply it. they are super helpful.

I agree wth the previous posters, I know I see the places to try it out at Ulta and Sephora.

That said, I can't resist a plug for my favorite mineral makeup, Everyday minerals. they cost much less then Bare Minerals and whenever I've seen BM at the stores, it looks so orange and that kinda scared me. I was so happy when I heard about Eeryday Minerals on Makeupally. makeupalley.com/

You can order samples online for th cost of shipping to try mineral makeup out and decide if you like it enough to invest. I think my samples lasted at least 2 weeks.

Here's a link. everydayminerals.com/

I work at ULTA, and we apply Bare Escentuals on customers all the time. Unlike other makeup, you don't apply it to your jawline. instead, use a Bare Escentuals brush (a small one, like the concealing brush) and brush a streak across your cheek. Choose the color that matches the best. they have recently made a lot more colors, but if you can't find one that totally matches your skin, go with the one that is a little lighter, not darker (Bare Escentuals is a lot different than other makeup), or (the best thing to do) is to buy both the lighter and darker color that are closest to your skin tone, and mix them together when you swirl. you may not be able to get the color just at first, but after a couple times when you are used to it, it will work great!

1277926289 82 Baggy Eyes Dilemma? Solve it With a Natural Bags Under Eyes Treatment Product!

Baggy may the way to go for some people when it comes to pants or trousers. but when it comes to beauty and skin care, baggy eyes are definitely not fashionable!

Eye bags, along with dark eye circles and wrinkles under the eyes, play a major role in making you look and feel older beyond your years. this is something you do not want to happen, especially if you have an important event coming up. Imagine attending your high school reunion and looking prematurely old because of puffy eyes. or perhaps going for a big job interview, and then having the bags under your eyes give your prospective employer the unfavorable impression that you are haggard or ill.

You have probably experienced something similar at least once in your life. and while undereye bags may not be life-threatening in any way, it is nevertheless true that they can help cause great anxiety or embarrassment.

So, what can you do to get rid of ugly under eye bags?

One thing you can consider is to buy and use an effective under eye cream. but with all the beauty and anti-aging products out there, how do you choose the right one? here are some tips for narrowing down your options.

1. Consider a natural bags under eyes treatment product that contains substances that are clinically proven to reduce or eliminate baggy eyes. two excellent examples of such substances are Eyeliss and Haloxyl.

2. Make sure the product does not contain ingredients that can cause allergic reactions. many skin care products contain substances like certain alcohols and parabens, which can irritate your skin or cause it to become dry. Some other ingredients can lead to even worse problems, such as respiratory disorders.

3. Find out if the product you are considering contains enough concentrations of anti-aging substances as active ingredients. many companies include only a small percentage of beneficial ingredients, just so they can claim that their product contains this or that substance. in reality, the amount is too small to have any significant impact on your skin.

Going with what has been scientifically proven and not just with what the most popular celebrities are using goes beyond just fashion sense. It will go a long way toward getting rid of baggy eyes and have you feeling more confident about your looks again.

Eye to the Keyhole: A Coastal Scents Haul!

1277924502 90 Eye to the Keyhole: A Coastal Scents Haul!O…K…..so maybe I’ve gone a wee bit more shopping. after hearing about Coastal Scents palattes from….everyone and reading some really good reviews of their HD Foundation I decided to put a small order in and get the foundation. So, I seem to have a lot of foundation at the moment…but I bought this as I’ll be graduating from University at the end of this week and the cameras will be flashing I’m sure.

I was horribly disorganised this year and I have to say a HUGE thank you to Oxford Jasmine (read her blog here, she is the loveliest online guru I’ve had the fortune of finding and chatting with and she’s always more than willing to help you out with any make up questions.) who came to my rescue as I ordered a bit late and was worried my goodies wouldn’t arrive in time; she offered to send me a small sample of the foundation if it didn’t arrive, so that I would look flawless for my big day. Thankfully my parcel has arrived, so wanna see some photos? (Sorry, gets very image heavy from here)

The unopened parcel…I was savouring the moment and resisting the urge to just rip the thing apart!

Close up of the sticker on the front.

Everything still packaged neatly, the pigment eyeshadow at the bottom was sent as a free sample.

The main attraction! this is the famous HD Foundation in ST-3B. It looks like it will be the perfect shade, but will do a quick LOTD tomorrow and do a full review once I’ve had the chance to test this out properly!

A pair of “Refillable powder dispensing pump brushes”. I’ve been looking for one of these for absolutely ages and couldn’t find one anywhere (well…I found one for about £20 but I wasn’t willing to pay that!). These were $1.99 each and I bought one for my mum as well. I’m going to a wedding soon so I think this with some mineral foundation in it will be perfect for quick and subtle touch ups.

I also bought a “Taklon flat liner concealer brush” that’s the head you can see and the handle is clear plastic. It sits nicely in your hand and has a good weight to it. I bought this mostly for cream eyeshadows and to line the eyes. I’ll let you know how I find it. You can also see the pigment I was sent free. It’s called Pearl Dust eyeshadow and it’s a lovely shimmery light colour, I think this is what pixie dust would look like!

Here it is swatched, dry on bare skin, no primer underneath. I think it would make a lovely highlighter colour, I’ll try it out tomorrow, but I think I may end up giving this to my mum, she really suits light colours like this whereas I prefer a darker look for my eyes. She’ll just have to wait and see how generous I’m feeling!

So that’s my haul for today, hope you liked it. have you tried any of the Coastal Scents products before? What did you think?

(I am not affiliated with Coastal Scents or any other company mentioned, all products featured were bought by me and all opinions expressed are my own.)

1277915502 27 What kind of college would be a study on to a movie make up artist?

If you want to get into this, you need to move in LA, Vancouver or Toronto. thats where the film industry, and that’s where all the schools. I’ve searched in the same thing, except more in Special Effects.Ich found this answer in a very similar question and found it very revealing: do not take a beauty school. Beauty schools are for people who are licensed in hair, nails or skin care like. they teach not made up. You need to go to a professional makeup artistry school. Make-up artists are certified, not lizenziert.Einige prestigious schools: Complexions (Canada) Westmore Academy (California) MUD (New York and California) and Vancouver Film School (Canada) Makeup forever (Paris), the schools will teach you what you must do, to get into makeup, but makeup school will need is the first step. Many people try to avoid it and it is much harder for them to be taken seriously. those who listen to you who have no training in make-up are those that are rare and gifted with extraordinary artistic ability. You hear about them because they so rarely emitters. The payment varies really want to do. Movie makeup artist make anywhere from $ 250 – $ 1000 per day. The union rates. to join the Union, you have to do a certain number of low-budget movies and pay union dues. You will do low-budget films for start anywhere from $ 20 – $ 100 per day. for TV artists can take you anywhere from $ 1000 – $ 5000 per week. Television is very hard to get and you have to be represented in general by an agency. Agencies require very well together professional portfolios to sign to you. You can also just do local bridal make-up and their livelihoods to do. Typical for bridal make-up on a professional level, you can do anywhere, per $ 500 – $ 1000 a day. there can be no final figures in makeup artistry, because the market varies by state and by the type of work you do. in addition, varies depending on how good you are and how much you work to get jobs. Jobs are highly competitive. You need to network with other artists (you will most of your first orders of other artists you get with friends), and you need to check job boards like craigslist. com and your make-up school job board. You need to stay focused and really wants to be successful. Artists are potentially a lot of money, but they also have large spans between jobs, so you have a position in accordance with his budget. You can make $ 5,000 in one day, but you have to make this last until you find your next job, and that could take a month or more. It’s a fun job, but it is hard work. You are on your feet all day and most days consist of 12-14 hour days with only 2-3 hours of sleep in between. they work in all possible conditions and are to be pleasant and easy going the whole time. Movie shoots are the hardest. TV is a pretty cushy, but hard to break. Photo shoots are fun, but exhausting, and you have a lot of hot lights melt in your make-up while barking orders to you by the photographer. Runway work is fun but very hectic and very stressful. The stress behind the scenes could be cut with a knife. You need to really love the industry successfully sein.Quelle (s): Myself: 10 years makeup artistry experience, 800 hours makeup training, 450 hours esthetic training.

Cocktails With… Nell Robinson

Sunday, June 13, 2010

The Pulse Complex is abuzz with model hopefuls eager to make the cut for the impending Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW), but despite the flurry of activity supermodel Nell Robinson is in chill mode at the Studio 38 bar, where she’s sipping her favourite cocktail.

what are you sipping?

I’m having a mojito.

how is it?

It’s actually very good… it’s just right; not too sweet and just enough rum (laughs).

what do you love about Studio 38?

It’s just a chill vibe and it’s close to the New Kingston area, where a lot of my friends work and lucky for me, it’s at Pulse. So when I’m here (she’s between Europe and the Rock) this is where we have drinks.

what are you most looking forward at CFW 10?

I’m dying to see Lubica’s line; her work is really evolving and whenever I wear her abroad I always get compliments. I’m also excited about Gavin Douglas, who now retails at Harrods. He’s doing really well and I want to see what CFW 2010 will be like for him.

Who are your favourite designers?

Internationally, I love Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana; in terms of Caribbean names I love Meiling, Claudia Pegus and Catch-A-Fire.

Socialite or homebody?

I would say a bit of both, as when I’m in Jamaica it’s all about spending lots of time with family and friends.

Flats or stilettos?

It’s all about legs, legs, legs… heels give a woman confidence.

What’s in your handbag?

Sunglasses by Marc Jacobs, nail polish, Nars lipgloss, blush brush, Givenchy eyeshadow and compact, Panadol and my BlackBerry.

What’s your style?

the temperature in London is different, so when I’m there I’d say rock star-chic because I throw a leather jacket over everything. but when I’m home I’m more casual.

When you’re not working, where’s the best place to find you?

in Jamaica (laughs)!

Who does your hair?

Josie’s on Phoenix Avenue.

Who does your nails?

Pamela at Princeville Plaza and Ophelia, who does house calls.

What’s the best thing about being a model?

the travelling… I get to fly all over the world and do things I’d never imagine. It’s not a nine-to-five, it’s flexible.

what projects are you currently working on?

I have been doing some swimwear looks for online clothing store ASOS.com; I have also done Italian GQ which was very sexy and I work a lot with photographer Marc Baptiste, who has a new coffee-table book in which I’m featured, and he will be coming for CFW.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

“Believe in yourself regardless of what anyone says or thinks; be confident.”

what advice would you give to aspiring models?

Keep a good head on your shoulders; it’s good to be signed locally because that way you know someone’s on your side: I haven’t regretted signing to Pulse. never do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.

And 10 years from now?

I see myself settled with a family. I’ve been pursuing my degree in arts and humanities; so by then, I would have long completed it and would have a successful fashion line of sandals or swimwear.

I decided to buy the new Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss. It’s not like I need another lip color, but I do it to find the best products for you, dear reader.

The coupon deducted from the product’s hefty $9.50 price tag, which is fairly high for a gloss. but I must say it’s worth it. This is perhaps the best drugstore lip gloss I’ve worn.

Posy, a light pink with a pretty shimmer, is the color I chose. the gloss goes on so smoothly with a triangular applicator that I balked until I saw how much coverage it offered, and so evenly.

The gloss’s light scent is sweet and similar to other lipsticks.

While not at all sticky or goopy, the gloss has presence. you feel it on your lips, but it’s a comfortable feel. it also doesn’t give you that “tight” sensation many glosses do when they dry a bit.

L’Oreal promotes Infallible as a six-hour lip color. certainly the gloss lasts a long time. I did still feel it six hours later – after massive coffee consumption and lunch – but the color was all but gone.

Still, I was left with the look of having something on my lips, compared with some glosses that, when faded, leave you with a naked lip.

I almost wish L’Oreal didn’t call it six-hour gloss. It’s throwing down a promise the company can’t necessarily deliver, and I don’t mind having to reapply my lip color after lunch.

“Infallible” suffices as a name, since this great gloss didn’t let me down.
